Saving businesses contribute to the implementation of national goals
Efficient energy consumption has been included in the plans of national strategic goals of the majority of European Union (EU) states, but experts say their importance will continue increasing. Not only this will be determined by a return on investment in energy efficiency measures, but also by geopolitical reasons. In 2014, EU leaders signed a climate and energy strategy at the European Council laying down specific goals set for individual countries - for example, Lithuania has a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 9% compared to 2005 by 2030. This strategy implies the goal for Lithuania to save the amount of energy, which is equal to the annual electricity consumption in the country, namely, 11.7 TWh, in 2014-2020.
